Firs Hill Community Primary School is a large school in inner city Sheffield with a high proportion of children whose first language and culture is not English. Their headteacher, Dina Martin OBE, is ambitious to involve the community in the life of the school. She recognised that whilst an increasing number of parents will use the website to see the life of the school, there are still many who do not, and she is keen to encourage the children to understand their part in the rich, wider life of the community, in Sheffield and beyond.
The digital information screens support this vision by showing the children's work and celebrating their achievements, and they also are a vital communication tool with the whole school community - today's menu, adult education courses, details of trips plus TV and weather channels all inform, and ease the pressure on the busy reception team. Even an author of the day.
We trained the school in using the system and, because the screen is updated via the school website CMS, each class teacher is able to put up a summary of the work their class has been doing too, so it doesn't fall on the shoulders of one busy person. The option of Ed HQ remotely managing the content of your screens is also available.
